DOLE-NCR joins tree planting and clean-up drive in Baseco
Volunteer employees from DOLE-NCR regional and its field office in Manila collects waste along the coastline of Baseco in Manila Bay on November 30, 2019. TONDO, Manila—Employees from the labor department were spotted cleaning the coastline of the dubbed ‘Baseco Beach’ in Manila Bay on November 30, 2019. 
 
Apart from the clean-up drive was a tree planting activity which also took place in the compound and was held in line with the DOLE's week-long celebration of its 86th anniversary.
 
Baseco Barangay Captain Diana Espinosa were grateful for the efforts extended by the agency. “Sana po ay patuloy nating gawin ito para po mapangalagaan ang ating Manila Bay at tuloy-tuloy na pong maging malinis,” she added. 
 
Secretary Roy A. Cimatu of the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) through his Assistant Secretary Gilbert C. Gonzales expressed their support in the activity and thanked DOLE for celebrating its anniversary by taking part in DENR’s campaign to rehabilitate Manila Bay.
 
“On behalf of DENR, kami po ay nakiki-isa sa inyong activity. Kami po ay nagpapasalamat na ito po ang inyong napiling activity para po sa inyong anniversary para makatulong po tayo sa ating ginagawa na malinis po natin ang Manila Bay at mga shorelines dito lalong-lalo na po dito sa Barangay ng Baseco,” said Gonzales.

Labor Secretary Silvestre H. Bello III led the ceremonial tree planting together with other DOLE officials: Undersecretary Ana C. Dione, Undersecretary Claro A. Arellano, Assistant Secretary Benjo Santos M. Benavidez, OIC Assistant Secretary Dominique R. Tutay, Director Alice Q. Visperas (ILAB), Director Karen P. Trayvilla (BWSC), Regional Director Sarah Buena S. Mirasol (DOLE-NCR), and Assistant Regional Director Marion S. Sevilla (DOLE-NCR), and OSHC representative, Dr. Reynold M. Sta. Ana.
 
Volunteer students from the Pamantasan ng Lungsod ng Maynila were also present to help in the activity.
 
The initiative forms part of the "Green Our DOLE Program” (GODP), which is the labor department’s environmental campaign that aims to empower its workforce to be ‘agents of green change’ in the workplace.
