The Public Employment Service Office (PESO) of City Government of Manila had collaborated with educational institutions to hold virtual job fairs and career webinars  exclusively for hosted school’s college graduates, including their partnership with Universidad de Manila and National Teachers College in August 2020. Due to adverse effects of the COVID-19 pandemic on their daily operations, they recently transitioned online all their local recruitment activities.

“PESO City of Manila, on a daily basis, caters to hundreds of applicants and clients.  These recent developments on the COVID-19 pandemic drastically affected our programs and our Office’s daily operations, in general. In order to ensure the health and safety of our applicants and employers, PESO Manila would be transitioning to the conduct of online employment facilitation for all local recruitment activities starting October 1, 2020,” said PESO Manila in their announcement via official Facebook Page.

“SESI partnered with us due to urgency of the positions that they have and so we facilitated the Online Virtual Job Fair via PESO Zoom account,” said Glenda Zamora-Aniñon, Muntinlupa City PESO Manager and current PESOMAP NCR Regional Federation President and PESOMAP National Secretary, adding that they successfully concluded the online job fair with 23 near hires out of 32 registered jobseekers.

The PESO of City Government of Valenzuela had already reaped the benefits of digitalizing their local recruitment system.  Their “first LGU-run job-matching portal” was launched on February 3, 2014 to empower their people against the perennial problem on unemployment. The online portal, which can be accessed at http://www.valenzuelatrabaho.gov.ph, aims to simplify and speed-up the traditional job application processes for both jobseekers and employers.

In an e-mail statement, PESO Valenzuela said that their online job portal has 11,000 Valenzuelano members with 500 partner employers inside and outside their city. Valenzuelanos who are interested to join the Valenzuela Trabaho community, whether as a job seeker or a job provider, may register via said web link.

Meanwhile, the labor department has existing guidelines on implementing a job fair through Department Order No. 113, Series of 2011; however, due to pandemic, DOLE-NCR have started consultations with the PESO managers of Metro Manila this October 2020 to come up with measures on how to operationalize the conduct of online job search assistance.
