157 livelihood beneficiaries join social prep seminar

Some 157 beneficiaries of the labor department’s livelihood program joined a Social Preparation seminar conducted by the Department of Labor and Employment - National Capital Region (DOLE-NCR) MUNTAPARLAS Field Office (MTPLFO) in March 2021.

Given the higher probability of failure and greater uncertainty for start-ups, the Social Preparation seminar is an essential undertaking to equip the beneficiaries with practical business management skills and values necessary for building their livelihood grant under the DOLE Integrated Livelihood Program (DILP) or Kabuhayan Program.

Said beneficiaries are composed of senior citizens and solo parent grantees who will receive one of the following DOLE livelihood assistance packages: Carinderia, Liquid Dishwashing, or Bigasan.

MTPLFO held these Social Preparation activities for the 107 resident-beneficiaries in Parañaque on March 5, 2021, while those in Muntinlupa and Las Piñas took place on March 12, 2021. Meanwhile, 50 beneficiaries from Taguig are yet to receive a similar learning activity.

MTPLFO Director Leonides P. Castillon, Jr. and his team in collaboration with the Public Employment Service Office (PESO) of the Local Government Units (LGU) facilitated said activities. They discussed, among others, the DILP’s program overview, conduct of business planning, financial literacy, values formation, and insurance coverage. During the learning sessions, they also highlighted the importance of making an effort to reap the benefits of the livelihood grant. They also explained the concept of saving and investing to help grow their livelihood undertaking.

DILP is one of the flagship programs of DOLE that creates an income generation opportunity and alternative employment for the marginalized, vulnerable, and working poor. The program aims to achieve the government’s mandate of inclusive growth and extensive poverty reduction by providing individuals an access to livelihood assistance to help increase their capacity for generating a sustainable local venture.
