DOLE, TESDA Mount Jobs Fairs for Tech-Voc Graduates

 

Department of Labor and Employment – National Capital Region Director, Atty. Alan M. Macaraya opened its doors to the first DOLE Regional Coordinating Council convergent project with the Technical Education and Skills Development Authority – NCR (TESDA-NCR), Philippine Overseas Employment Administration (POEA), PESO Association of Metro Manila (PAMM) and the Association of Tech-Voc Schools dubbed, “HANAPBUHAY PARA SA TESDA SPECIALISTAS.”

 

During the preparatory meeting held at the DOLE-NCR on January 29, 2013, TESDA-NCR Director Mitch Tangonan came in full-force with the different TESDA Field Office Directors so the DOLE-NCR counterpart Field Office Directors can immediately address the specific concerns in conducting the job fair in their respective areas of jurisdiction.  “This massive jobs bridging project intends to mount a series of specialized job fairs for the technical-vocational (tech-voc) graduates from TESDA accredited training institutions in Metro Manila.  We are expecting around 23,500 applicants to take part on these jobs fairs,” said TESDA – NCR Director Mitch Tangonan.

 

The series of job fair will kick-off at the Quezon City Covered Walk in close coordination with the Quezon City Public Employment Service Office, on March 11, 2013.   DOLE-NCR Quezon City Field Office along with the Quezon City PESO will invite participating employers that correspond to the skills profile of registered tech-voc graduates of Quezon City.  On the other hand, the Philippine Overseas Employment Administration (POEA) will be tapped for the overseas component of the job fair.

 

“Our approach will be “focused hiring”.  We want to ensure higher placement rate, thus we asked TESDA to provide us with the profile and number of tech-voc graduates in a given district so we can match them with the industries that requires manpower for their specific skills,” said DOLE-NCR Director Alan M. Macaraya. 

 

Industries that are considered Key Employment Generators (KEGs) or those sectors identified as “having the potential of absorbing the greater number of Philippine workforce” will be invited to participate in the job fair.   These industries include, the Business Process Outsourcing (BPO), Health and Wellness, Construction, Hotels and Restaurants, Tourism, Security Services, Hospital, Telecommunication Companies (Telcos). 

 

Contractors too, under the program called Workers Hiring for Infrastructure Project (WHIP) will be tapped for the activity.  But Director Macaraya assured that only those registered with DOLE under Department Order 18-A or Department Order 18-02 will be allowed to join.

 

Employment counselling will also be done on site, and applicants can avail of free seminars on interview tips and résumé writing.  Pre-employment and documentation services will also be provided such as NSO, SSS, PhilHealth, Pag-ibig, NBI, and BIR to name a few. Walk-in applicants and those non-tech voc graduates will be provided with a special lane to facilitate their applications.
