On December 6, 2016, the DOLE-NCR Manila Field Office (MFO) awarded livelihood raw materials, tools and equipment worth Php 210,000.00 to the Nagkakaisang Senior Citizens ng Maynila, Inc. (NSCMI), a non-profit, SEC registered association, of elderly citizen aged 60 to 86 years old residing in District VI-Manila. This livelihood enhancement project grant is in line with the Regional Office's active implementation of the DOLE Integrated Livelihood and Emergency Employment Program (DILEEP), under the Sustainable Livelihood Framework, with the objective of providing and enhancing self-employment, especially for the members of marginalized sectors of society.
In a simple awarding ceremony held at the Bulwagang Antonio Villegas of the Manila City Hall, DOLE-NCR Regional Director Atty. Johnson G. Cañete personally turned over the check representing the livelihood grant to Ms. Necita Salivio, president of NSCMI, together with the twenty-six (26) senior citizen beneficiaries. The senior citizens' organization committed the grant through the signing of a Memorandum of Agreement with DOLE-NCR, to innovation and packaging enhancements on its members' novelty items production, which includes rosaries, chokers, wallets, Christmas lanterns, and other bead giveaways, and also, to expansion of its cottage industry, which now will include production of doormats, rags and doilies.
After the awarding, Director Cañete led the oath-taking of the new set of officers of the NSCMI. Former President - Mayor Joseph Estrada graced the event. MFO Director Leonides P. Castillon Jr., and Ms. Joebelle Leoncio, LEO III, DOLE-NCR MFO, facilitated the said activities.
