The Department of Labor and Employment together with the Department of Trade and Industry rolled-out the first ever Trabaho, Negosyo, at Kabuhayan Caravan at the City of Marikina. The initiative is in response to the call of the Duterte Administration to create 7.5 million jobs that will enable the Filipinos to be economically productive and gainfully employed. The Marikina Local Government and the Office of Cong. Bayani Fernando, Representative of the City’s First District, were likewise involved in said initiative. The two-day event was held at the Marikina River Banks Activity Center last 3-4 March 2017.
Gracing the occasion were the prime movers of the City, Mayor Marcy Teodoro, Cong. Bayani Fernando, members of the City Council, and the heads of education institutions. In his message, the local chief executive expressed his appreciation for launching the activity in Marikina. He likewise articulated his hopes for Marikina to be recognized as an economic hub through combination of business and employment activities. On the other hand, Cong. Fernando was nostalgic in his message as he related the city’s past, when Marikina was a manufacturing center that enticed people from all-over the country to work in said sector. He further challenged the City’s youth in honing their capacities by being selfless in rendering their services and talents for others to emulate.
Assistant Secretary Alex V. Avila of DOLE delivered the message in behalf of Labor Secretary Sylvestre H. Bello III that centered on the administration’s economic and employment agenda. He expressed his optimism that the youth will be able to find the right employment in order to contribute to nation building. The DTI Undersecretary, Atty. Ruth Castelo mentioned the need to generate employment to realize the Government’s thrust and agenda. She was accompanied by OIC-Director Emma Asusano of DTI-NCRO.
On the first day, orientation seminars on Employment Coaching, Labor Standards, DOLE Livelihood Assistance and DTI business interventions. Mr. Ryan Roberto E. Delos Reyes, Sr. LEO of EPWW and Mr. Miguel Luis U. Arias of BLE conducted Employment Coaching in separate sessions. Ms. Alicia Del Mundo, Supervising LEO of PAPAMAMARISAN Field Office discussed the DOLE Livelihood Assistance while Atty. Benjo Santos Benavidez of DOLE-BLR presented Labor Standards and Workers Rights.
There were 1,675 jobseekers who attended the job fair mobilized by Mr. Gil Munar, PESO Manager of Marikina City.
The TNK roll-out in the National Capital Region is the administration’s convergent approach in providing the needed economic and employment services to the different stakeholders and will likewise serve as a blueprint for its conduct in other regions of the country. END/Ryan Roberto E. Delos Reyes
