DOLE PAPAMAMARISAN: No Age Discrimination in Employment

On May 30, 2017, the DOLE PAPAMAMARISAN Field Office intensifies its effort to disseminate updates on labor law and conducted a forum on the “Anti-Age Discrimination Act” to 20 employees and management staff of Century Pacific Food Incorporated   in Ortigas, Pasig City.

The forum aims to give the companies a closer look at DOLE regulations as implemented by the field office. Ms. Alicia Del Mundo, Supervising Labor and Employment Officer who talked about the Family Welfare Program, which is made mandatory for establishments employing more than 200 workers. The importance of taking care of the well-being of workers and its relationship to productivity was emphasized. Engineers Sir Franco Manlulu III and Robert Chavez Jr. discussed the Occupational Safety and Health Standards, and General Labor Standards respectively. The two standards are subjects of the visitation and enforcement power granted to the Secretary of Labor and the Labor Laws Compliance Officers by Art. 128 of the Labor Code.

More importantly, in the same forum, Engr. Chavez discussed about Republic Act 10911, otherwise known as “The anti-age discrimination act”. It was early this year when said law was signed, which eventually led to the signing of its Implementing Rules and Regulations (IRR) or D.O. 170-17 on February 2, 2017 which was made effective fifteen (15) days after its publication in a newspaper of general circulation.

Century Pacific Food Incorporated is a big name is primarily in the business of the distribution of canned and processed fish and goods that have become household names in a Filipino home like Century Tuna, Argentina, 555, and Angel Evaporada.
