Labor Education Reaches 15,000 Graduating Students in Manila

From January to April 2017, the DOLE-NCR, through its Manila Field Office (MFO), reached out to more than 15,000 students in the City of Manila, through the conduct of Labor Education for Graduating Students (LEGS) Seminars. Multitudes of these students, which belong to 17 public and private colleges and universities situated in the country’s center of tertiary education, benefited from the DOLE information, education and communication (IEC) materials under the Labor and Employment Education Services (LEES) Program, which includes modules on labor standards, employment coaching and anti-illegal recruitment.

A total of 38 labor education sessions were conducted in the following educational institutions: (1) University of the East Manila (January 11); (2) Lyceum of the Philippines University (January 13); (3) Colegio de San Juan de Letran (January 16); (4) University of Santo Tomas (January 27 to March 31); (5) Mapua Institute of Technology (February 3 to 10); (6) Polytechnic University of the Philippines (February 20 to 22); (7) FEATI University (February 24); (8) STI College Recto (March 2); (9) Far Eastern University Manila (March 6 to 9); (10) National Teachers College (March 7); (11) STI College Taft (March 7); (12) EARIST State College (March 10); (13) Pamantasan ng Lungsod ng Maynila (March 28 to 30); (14) Technological Institute of the Philippines (March 30); (15) Philippine Normal University (March 31); (16) Philippine Women’s University (April 5); and, (17) San Beda College (April 17).

Indeed, this remarkable achievement demonstrates DOLE-NCR’s resolve to fulfill its mandate to promote the welfare of current and future members of the Filipino workforce. Further LEGS seminars and LEES activities are scheduled to be conducted in more universities and colleges in the coming months as the next academic year begins. END/Jeremiah T. Carlos
