Strengthening Career Guidance Through Partnership and Coordination

The Department of Labor and Employment – National Capital Region was invited by DOLE – MIMAROPA in its Regional Career Advocacy Congress for knowledge sharing and benchmarking of good practices. The activity was held at the Extremeli Suites, Braco Ave., Parañaque City on 6-7 September 2017.

With the theme “Making Sound and Informed Career Choices, Honing 21st Century Skills of the Filipino Youth”; the activity gathered the region’s networks of guidance counselors and career advocates with the objective of providing relevant information on youth programs and other interventions so as to provide the sector with informed career path and address job and skills mismatch.

Gracing the occasion were Dr. Luzviminda S. Guzman, Chair of Guidance and Counseling Board, PRC; who presented the Continuing Professional Development and Dir. Dominique R. Tutay for the Project JobsFit updates. The Representatives of MIMAROPA’s CHED, TESDA, DOST and DepEd were tapped to present their respective agency’s programs relative to youth development.

Mr. Ryan Roberto E. Delos Reyes, Sr. LEO of the Employment Promotion and Workers Welfare Division revisited the Issues and Concerns of Project JobsFit to gauge the knowledge of the participants on the actions agenda and recommendations of said study. He also presented the initiative of DOLE-NCR in capacitating its network of guidance counselor on child labor concerns and its worst forms in relation to DepEd’s Child Protection Policy wherein the Guidance Counselors serves as Vice Chairs. He also gave information of youth adolescent and development to present a holistic picture of youth situation and its relationship with youth employability.

The participants and the DOLE MIMAROPA personnel expressed their appreciation to the information shared by DOLE-NCR as it enabled them acquire additional knowledge that are pertinent in the delivery of their services and realization of their mandates. Benchmarking of practices is seen as an effective channel to share information and relevant measures in implementing programs and services for possible adoption.

Career Guidance, as one of the pillars of employment, serves as an avenue to strengthen the provision of career services, labor market information, and other initiatives related to youth bridging interventions to hone the sector’s skills and talents for nation building.
