Manila Senior Citizens Benefit from Php1M DOLE-NCR Grant

On September 29, 2017, the Manila Field Office (MFO) awarded livelihood raw materials, tools and equipment worth almost Php 1 Million to the elderly members of Bukluran ng mga Nakatatandang Mamamayan (Senior Citizens) sa Lungsod ng Maynila, Inc. This livelihood project grant is in line with DOLE-NCR’s active implementation of the DOLE Integrated Livelihood and Emergency Employment Program (DILEEP) with the objective of providing sustainable livelihood for the marginalized sectors, improving their total well-being and encouraging them to productively contribute to nation building.

In a simple awarding ceremony held at the Bulwagang Antonio Villegas of the Manila City Hall, MFO Director Ma. Corazon Pepito turned over the check representing the livelihood grant to Mr. Cesar Angeles, Bukluran President, together with the two hundred and ninety-three (293) senior citizen-beneficiaries. The senior citizens’ organization commits the grant to its members’ micro-enterprises, which includes production of eco-bags, rags and doormats, printed shirts, dishwashing liquid and fabric softeners, novelty beads, bayongs, and Christmas lanterns.

Former President – Manila Mayor Joseph Estrada graced the event. Ms. Regina Balasbas, MFO DILEEP Focal Person, DOLE-NCR MFO, facilitated the said activity.
