Success story of a GIP beneficiary

Throughout its coarse battle against unemployment, the Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) conducts a number of Youth-bridging Programs that aim to enrich the skills of our future manpower supply. Among these programs is Government Internship Program (GIP), under Executive Order No. 139 S. 1993 which aims to provide opportunities and engage young workers, particularly from the poor/indigent sector to demonstrate their talents and skills in the field of public service.

A number of interns under the GIP have shown promising potentials among them is 22 year-old Kyra Jeanette Cariño, who was a beneficiary of the said program in 2016. Carino graduated at the Technological University of the Philippines with a degree in Bachelor of Science in Entrepreneurial Management.

After graduation, Cariño heard of the Government Internship Program being implemented by DOLE-National Capital Region - CAMANAVA Field Office in partnership with the City Government of Caloocan thru its Labor Industrial Relations Office (LIRO) and saw this as an opportunity for employment. After successfully passing the screening process, she was assigned in DOLE-CAMANAVA - Labor Laws Compliance Section in 2016 where she showed great promise and competence.

“Napakasipag ng batang yan, kahit tambak sa amin ang maraming paperworks, ngingiti lang at mag-tatrabaho.”, remarked Mr. Joseph Gil E. Cabrera, one of Cariño’s immediate superiors under LLC Section. Mr. Cabrera added that Cariño was willing to learn and she showed exemplary work ethics in the entire duration of her internship.

Cariño is now an executive assistant at the G Little Trading, Inc., a known petroleum distributor company in Caloocan City. Apart from her administrative duties to the company, she is also a designated Safety Officer and Pollution Control Officer.
