Strengthening the Capacity to Hone Talents: The DOLE-NCR Live Skills Training of Trainers

Having the right skills coupled with proper education and work ethics is the way to increase chances to ace employment and contribute to nation building. It is the initiative that will empower the various stakeholders in the labor market in harnessing the talents of the duty-bearers and the beneficiaries of the different employment programs and services.

It is in this view that DOLE-NCR held the five-day Life Skills Training (LST) for the regional implementers and their counterparts in the local government. Around 50 personnel attended the activity held on 20-24 November 2017 at the Aloha Hotel, Malate, Manila. Trainers from Integrality, a service provider of the LST, was tapped to render technical assistance in the provision of said program.

In the welcome message of Regional Director Henry John S. Jalbuena, delivered in his behalf by Mr. Ryan Roberto E. Delos Reyes, Sr. LEO of TSSD-EPWW, an emphasis in having a dedicated pool of trainers to deliver the basic needs to realize the mandate on employment services was highlighted. He likewise encouraged the attendees to utilize the learnings gained in the activity so as to develop further the potentials of the beneficiaries of the bridging programs being implemented by both the Department and the Public Employment Service Offices.

During the activity, the participants were given information on approaches to enhance their capacities as service providers, proper interventions to be provided to their clients, and relevant information on career guidance. Likewise, immersions through workshop and other collaborative activities were also conducted to enable the participants to have a better understanding of their clients’ perspectives and how to go-about in providing the LST.

In one session, participants were moved into tears as they shared their experiences which likewise served as their strong points in delivering the mandates of their works. One participant expressed gratitude for being included in the activity as it “gives a fresh approach and different perspective in doing my work”. Another mentioned satisfaction saying “buti na lang nakasama ako ditto, thank you po, sana marami pang ganitong activity”.

The LST is one of the component of the JobStart Porgram that aims to enhance the capabilities of the youth in job search and at the same time set a right perspective towards employment in general.
