Hard work pays off for TUPAD beneficiaries

Providing for the needs of the vulnerable sector is key into alleviating their conditions. One of their primary needs is employment. On 5 January 2018, more than 750 beneficiaries of the Tulong Pangkabuhayan sa mga Disadvantaged Workers (TUPAD) in the City of Marikina received their salary for the work rendered in December 2017. Most of the work performed included street sweeping and de-clogging of drainages and small canals.

The personnel of the Employment Promotion and Workers’ Welfare Division facilitated the provision of salaries. Counterparts from the local government were also present to ensure the orderly conduct of said initiative.

One beneficiary expressed her joy upon receiving her salary saying “idadagdag ko po sa puhunan para sa maliit kong tindahan. Makakatulong po ito”. Another beneficiary, a mother of three, mentioned that the pay she received will be spent for her children’s schooling needs, saying “magagamit ko po ito sa pag-aaral ng mga anak ko at pambaon din po nila”. A grandmother also received her salary much to her delight saying “may pambili na ako ng gamot namin ng mister ko”. They likewise expressed their profound gratitude to DOLE for having such initiative as their finances were augmented that enable them to provide for their basic needs.

The TUPAD is one of the components of the DOLE Integrated Livelihood and Emergency Employment Program (DILEEP) designed to engage its beneficiaries for 10 to 30 days community-based work and other related undertakings. END / Ryan Roberto Delos Reyes / IMSD-LCO-2018-01 / GNJ18-07
