DOLE sparks new hope for the victims of Marawi Crisis
Popularly known by tourists as “The Summer Capital of the South”, Marawi used to be an abundant abode and known for being the center of commerce in Mindanao. But things took a drastic turn as the ISIS-inspired extremist group “Maute” bombarded the City that led to a five-month war—destroying houses, establishments, and livelihood. Such catastrophe is now known as “Marawi Crisis”.
As they struggle to survive amid crisis impact and income loss, our Maranao brothers sought refuge in different areas. Some are in Caloocan City, yearning to start a new life and create a livelihood.
To their aid, the DOLE-CAMANAVA Field Office partnered with the Caloocan City Public Employment Service Office (PESO) in enabling the 35 identified beneficiaries to establish their own business.
Livelihood grants worth P280,000.00 in the form of sewing machine equipment and RTW products were awarded to the said Marawi Crisis Survivors on 19 January 2018 at the Caloocan City Hall under the DOLE Integrated Livelihood and Emergency Employment Program (DILEEP).
Present during the activity were DOLE CAMANAVA Field Office Director Rowella V. Grande together with Ronald S. Del Rosario, Richard Camit, and Rachel Roldan. The PESO Caloocan team was represented by its PESO Manager Violeta Y. Gonzales, Jocelyn Yupangco, and Emilio Resuelo.
DILEEP is the Department’s venture to contribute to the government agenda of inclusive growth through massive job generation and poverty reduction by providing small enterprises in the hopes of helping the catastrophe victims to recover from their current situation.
