An open letter from a first-time SPES applicant

A SPES applicant from Malabon City gladly shared her application journey through an open letter:

THE START OF A SPES JOURNEY

Joy Corrine A. Cabuang

"When my teacher told us that the Malabon City Public Employment Service Office (PESO) and the Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) will be screening applicants for the Special Program for Employment of Students (SPES), a government project intended to help the students finance their education thru short-term employment, I decided to grab the opportunity because the income that I will receive from it will be essential for me. I immediately went to Malabon City hall for the registration. Luckily, I was scheduled for an interview.

Weeks passed and the day of my interview has come. Overwhelmed and nervous, I prepared everything that is needed to pass the said interview. Wearing the armor of God, I went to Malabon Amphitheatre with confidence.

Then on Wednesday, 08 February 2018, I got to the venue at 10:00 in the morning and was astounded by the number of students who were also aspiring to be part of the program. Intimidation and stress start to take over, but I find comfort and self-motivation in the bible verse:

“You can do all things through Christ Jesus who strengthens you.” (Philippians 4:13)

I knew that I had to motivate myself despite the headache, exhaustion, hunger, and fear of rejection. I endured the long hours of waiting. As my turn for the interview was gets closer, the nervousness intensified. Until I almost didn't notice that it was already my turn. I stood up and went to the interviewer's table handing my application with shaky hands. I felt nervous yet I tried to be comfortable during the Interview.

I was advised that the results will be announced after careful evaluation.

I'm that the SPES application process taught me not to rely on my friends and others. Before I went home, I uttered another prayer entrusting the result of my application to God. I will be patiently waiting for the result and hopefully, if I meet the requirements, I will be one of the lucky SPES beneficiaries for this year."
