NOVALICHES, QUEZON CITY—The Samahang Magkakapitbahay sa Urbano, Inc. (SMUI) formally launched the Sewing Livelihood Project awarded by the Department’s field office in Quezon City in partnership with Presidential Commission for the Urban Poor (PCUP) on 15 February 2018.
Headed by Eulalia de Castro, the SEC-registered and PCUP-accredited organization has 26 members, with 6 expert sewers who were once employees of a garment factory.
The award was worth P250,000.00 in a form of sewing machines, cloth and other sewing materials.
The highlight of the activity was the blessing of the project site. In attendance were members from PCUP as represented by Commissioner Randy Halasan, Glenda Dela Cruz, and Cruz Makimkim; local barangay representatives Tess Semilla of Seleno Drive, Rolando Mejila of Barangay Land and Housing Resettlement Office), and PWD President Roberto Olivares.
