WODP scholar graduate, inspired to set up own business
Regional Director Atty. Ana C. Dione congratulates WODP Scholar, Desiree Patiño

Millenials are changing the business landscape by capitalizing on their dynamism and enthusiasm to strike out on their own. This is what Workers Organization Development Program-Isabelo Delos Reyes (WODP-IDR) graduate Desiree Jane Patiño dreams of—to establish her own business once a good opportunity comes.

Desiree graduated on 25 April 2018 with a Bachelor’s Degree of Science in Business Administration, Major in Marketing Management at the University of Perpetual Help System DALTA in Las Piñas. She became a WODP-IDR scholar after his father, Dennis D. Patiño, union officer of Kapatiran ng mga Manggagawa sa Tri-Phil International, Inc. applied to the program to seek financial assistance. Desiree’s mother maintains a small Carinderia outside their house.

It was a sweet victory for the Patiño family as Desiree’s diploma compensated all the hard work of her parents who were both unable to get a college degree during their time due to difficult financial situation. Desiree is the only child.

With a vocational course in Culinary Arts which Desiree obtained at Magsaysay Center for Hospitality and Culinary Arts in 2013, Desiree hopes to one day have her own food business, utilizing her culinary background and integrating the principles she learned in marketing. Desiree knew she needs a full-time job first so she can save and raise funds. Currently, she has pending job applications and is open to working in any industry for a marketing position.

Regional Director Atty. Ana C. Dione congratulated Desiree and encouraged her to apply for DOLE livelihood assistance once she intends to start her business.
