A Measure to Achieve Decent Employment: The TNK Learning Sessions
Having the right information and positive outlook are factors that decide a person’s success. These are keys that will unlock limitless opportunities in the labor market be it in wage employment or in self-employment. It is in this notion that the National Capital Region’s Offices of the Department of Labor and Employment and the Department of Trade and Industry jointly conducted a series of advocacy seminars in CAMANAVA, Manila, and Pasay to impart necessary and timely information that plays a vital role in the world of work.
On 2 & 4 May 2018, advocacy seminars were held at the Valenzuela City Hall, Bulwagang Katipunan of Caloocan City, and Malabon City Hall Penthouse wherein participants were introduced to various opportunities. The same was conducted in the Manila Field Office on 10 May 2018 and Pasay PESO Conference Room, Pasay City Hall on 16 May 2018.
During the activity, Senior LEO Ryan Roberto E. Delos Reyes of the Employment Promotion and Workers Welfare Division stressed on key points to ace employment such as application and resume writing, responding to job interviews, and negotiating for a job offer. Squaring in on job interviews, he emphasized that it is the opportune time for jobseekers to advertise their skills and their potential contributions to the company they intend to work for. Mock interviews and other interactive exercises were also held to ensure that the participants’ gained knowledge will be useful in their employment search.
Delos Reyes also discussed salient points of the statutory workers’ benefits including minimum wage, mandatory benefits, and occupational health and safety to understand their basic labor rights. Capping each presentation, Delos Reyes emphasized to the participants that “Your Attitude Determines Your Altitude”, to remind them that by being well-rounded and grounded will define their success.
In a parallel session, Jerry C. Yao, a Marketing Sensei, discussed entrepreneurship in line with promoting the Micro-Small-Medium Enterprises. Participants of said session were given information on business start-ups to raise their entrepreneurial interests. As an inspiration to the participants, Yao also shared his own experiences as he himself is an entrepreneur who went through the ups and downs of doing business,
The activity is part of the Labor Day celebrations under the Trabaho, Negosyo, at Kabuhayan initiative, which aims to realize the vision of decent work and economic growth through inclusive and sustainable interventions. END / Ryan Roberto Delos Reyes / IMSD-LCO-2018-05 / PRMY18-03
