15 returning OFW teachers receive teaching kits from NRCO-NCR

Every year thousands of Filipinos leave the country to work in a foreign land, searching for employment and better opportunities, all for the sake of family and their needs.

The Overseas Filipino Workers (OFWs) braved time and space, anxiety, and even boredom just to realize their hopes and aspirations for their loved ones.

Many of these OFWs are degree holders while others are gainfully employed who opted to try their chances abroad.

These OFWs spent years away from their families to ensure of their well-being and guarantee a better future. However, the dynamics in the global market affected these workers that majority return to their country in the hopes of finding another opportunity.

Most of these returning OFWs are teachers.

As such, the DOLE-NRCO National Capital Region provided assistance to 15 returning OFW teachers through the "Sa Pinas, Ikaw ang Ma’am/Sir" Program held Saturday, June 23.

Said program aims to reintegrate the returning OFWs into the mainstream local labor market.

Most of the beneficiaries are licensed teachers or graduates of Education who worked as household service and factory workers abroad.

The awarded kits are composed of laptops and printers, which will ease reintegration to their chosen profession.

Beneficiaries expressed their gratitude to the Department’s assistance during the turn-over of teaching kits.

“Dagdag kaalaman din para sa ‘min na meron kaming laptop, makakatulong po ito,” said former OFW from Taiwan.

“Gusto ko pong magturong muli kaya magagamit ko ‘to para dun,” mentioned former household worker from the Middle East. She returned to the Philippines and availed of the assistance so she could also look after her growing brood of three. “Lumalaki na po kasi ang mga bata kaya kailangan ko din matutukan ang aking mga anak,” she said.

The assistance is one way of honoring the contributions of the OFWs. END / Ryan Roberto Delos Reyes
