Value-enhancing workplace culture strengthened at DOLE-NCR

“Values drive our life choices and our actions…” said guest resource speaker and Chief Administrative Officer Rosario B. Garcia of DOLE-Human Resource Development Service’s Personnel Administration Division during the conduct of the first Continuing Values Formation Session held for 37 DOLE-NCR employees on Friday, July 20.

This was held following the directive of DOLE-NCR Regional Director Henry John S. Jalbuena to intensify the formation and preservation of a value-enhancing workplace culture.

“I had enjoined all the DOLE-NCR employees to participate in this activity in the interest of meeting the highest standards of integrity and excellence in the workplace,” said Director Jalbuena.

In context, Garcia emphasized that an individual’s actions or decisions are stemmed from a strong value system that are also shaped by one’s circle of influences.

“…though we may not be always conscious of it, we follow certain ‘rules of conduct’ in our lives that are influenced by one’s family, friends, community, church, school, culture, and professional circles,” said Garcia.

The session covered the fundamentals of values, ethics, and morals; Maslow’s notable hierarchy of needs; habits of highly effective people; concept of teambuilding; and significance of communication in the workplace.

Garcia ensured the active involvement of the participants through an inspiring exercise called “Banig ng Buhay” that probed each person’s greatest achievements and life goals so as to help with the discernment of one’s values and principles, allowing a renewed appreciation of constant self-evaluation. During the group work, Rubie Virayo, a former government intern turned regular employee at DOLE-NCR said “it is my greatest accomplishment to be part of the DOLE-NCR family.”

A re-orientation on the Professional Codes of Ethics of DOLE Employees followed after the group activity.

The Division Chief also highlighted the significant role of a public servant, wherein she emphasized the value of making intentional informed decisions at all times as appose to acting impulsively as the latter  may lead to unintended consequences.

In closing, Director Jalbuena was grateful for everyone’s commitment in making the event possible despite the unfavorable weather condition. END / Hershey Aquino
