ANTIPOLO CITY—Officers and members of the Malayang Samahan ng Manggagawa sa Metropolitan Club-LAGMAN were awarded a DOLE training grant worth P44,000.00 to hold the “Labor Relations and Basic Course on Trade Unionism” last Saturday, November 10 at Bretsh & Barrie Seminar House and Resort.
The grant was under the DOLE Workers Organization Development Program (WODP) as facilitated by its focal staff, Maria Lerma C. Jimenez and Sarah May Asaytuno of DOLE field office in Makati and Pasay.
“Kinikilala ng batas na kapwa may mga karapatan ang mamumuhunan at manggagawa,” said Jimenez during her introduction on labor relations to the union members. She also discussed the concept of management prerogative and emphasized that “it must be exercised in good faith not based on malice, with valid business reasons and not covered by any legal or contractual limitations." Jimenez also provided concrete examples in response to the request of the union member participants.
DOLE-NCR Makati and Pasay field office (MPFO) facilitated the activity as represented by labor and employment officers, Maria Lerma C. Jimenez (left photo) and Sarah May Asaytuno (right photo).
Union president Ronald Borcione were grateful for DOLE’s support, having granted a WODP training for the second time.
“Ako po ay nagpapasalamat sa DOLE sa pagbibigay ng training sa aming samahan. Napakarami po naming natutunan at kami po ay umaasa na sana sa susunod na mga taon ay mabigyan kami muli ng pagkakataon na makapag-avail sa iba pang programa ng DOLE,” said Borcione.
Said union's first capacity building was held in 2017. END / Sarah May Asaytuno
