Wearing a school uniform on a DOLE seminar inside school premises is usually a way to go for most educational institutions.

But for Pasay City North High School - Tramo Campus, celebrating their career guidance and employment coaching week is a time to put on an outfit of their chosen professions. A total of two hundred fifty Grade 10 students participated the Career Guidance and Employment Coaching (CGEC) seminar as conducted by DOLE Makati-Pasay Field Office (MPFO) in partnership with the Local Government of Pasay City through its Public Employment Service Office (PESO) on 22 January 2019.

In his opening remarks, School Principal Nunilon Moreno shared his experiences in choosing the right career and encouraged the students to fully understand the course or work that they will pursue—5 to 10 years from now.

Senior Labor and Employment Officer Katrina Otadoy of DOLE field office in Makati City said that the CGEC program intends to inform students and jobseekers with possible education and career paths.

Otadoy also discussed important facts pertaining to Labor Market Information, briefing the students on the profiles of employment, unemployment, and underemployment rates in the Philippines. The presentation also focused on the in-demand and hard-to-fill jobs on both local and overseas.

PESO Pasay representative Edith Felipe shared the programs being offered by the Local Government of Pasay City in relation to the promotion of decent employment and also services offered to support the education of deserving students such as DOLE’s Special Program for Employment of Students (SPES).

Addressing job mismatch remains to be one of the priorities of the Department of Labor and Employment. DOLE seminars for students are annually arranged through school requests in coordination with their nearest labor and employment agency.

For DOLE Makati-Pasay Field Office, CGEC activities for the following schools in Pasay City are scheduled on the last week of January 2019 until the second week of February 2019:
  • Kalayaan National High School
  • Pasay City South High School
  • Pasay City West High School
  • Pasay City East High School
  • Pasay City National Science High School
