The CAMANAVA field office of the Department of Labor and Employment - National Capital Region recorded a total of 2,157 beneficiaries of the Special Program for Employment Students (SPES) for the fiscal year 2018.

From the said figure, there were 1,098 beneficiaries from Caloocan, 485 from Malabon, 324 from Navotas, and 250 from Valenzuela.

Conducted in coordination with the Public Employment Service Office (PESO) and other participating private companies, the SPES is DOLE’s youth-bridging program that aims to assist the poor yet deserving students to finish their education by giving them full-time employment for a period of 20-78 days throughout the year except in Christmas Vacation, wherein the employment period covers 10-15 days to avoid hindrance on class schedules.

Dexter Padua, one of the SPES beneficiaries from Caloocan City in 2018 encouraged potential beneficiaries to join the program. He said: “Opportunity po ang SPES na makapagpatuloy sa pag-aaral at magkaroon ng work experience. Payo ko po sa mga kapwa-kabataan na ‘wag sayangin ang oras habang bakasyon.”

Jeffrey Calimlim, another SPES beneficiary from the same city looked forward to the agency’s continuous support to the youth sector. “Marami pa po sana matulungang mga estudyanteng mahihirap,” he said. END / Angelica Fresnoza
