DOLE-NCR extends PWD advocacy campaign to PESO
As part of the commitment of DOLE-NCR to continuously promote the rights and welfare of the Persons with Disabilities (PWDs), the PESO Association of Metro Manila (PAMM)—the organization of the Public Employment Service Office in the National Capital Region—was capacitated on PWD concerns.
The topics discussed centered on PWD inclusivity on economic growth, access to job market, and relevant disability laws.
Guest speakers, Carmen R. Zubiaga, OIC-Executive Director of the National Council on Disability Affairs (NCDA) and Rizalio R. Sanchez, Division Chief of Information Education and Communication of said agency, extensively discussed said topics with the aim of enabling the participants to comprehend fully the relevance of the PWDs on nation building. 
Zubiaga said, “The PWD sector can also contribute to the desired economic growth of the country.” She also emphasized on the need of the sector to be empowered through skills enhancement to cope with the rigors of the labor market. 
Sanchez presented the relevant laws that aims to respond to PWD concerns and address their needs. He stressed that the laws are meant to be observed and implemented to empower the sector. 
Zubiaga further her presentation with the interventions being provided by the agency that aims to respond to the needs of the sector to be included for their holistic development. She said that the economic growth and access to job market should be inclusive and added that initiatives and practices on employment promotion should include sensitivity to the approach on PWDs.
An open forum was conducted after each presentations to provide the participants an avenue to air their concerns or comments. Many of the attendees expressed their profound gratitude for having the activity. Some even articulated their planned initiative of establishing coordination with the Persons with Disability Affairs Office (PDAO) after the Public Employment Service Offices in Caloocan and Mandaluyong shared best practices on attending to their PWD clients.
The Department has implemented the Tulong Alalay sa Taong may Kapansanan or TULAY Program to bridge the employment needs of the sector on wage employment, livelihood assistance, and skills development. The activity is part of the efforts of DOLE-NCR to strengthen the awareness of its partners on the conditions of the sector and advocates on PWD rights and promotion of their welfare.
