MANDALUYONG CITY—Some 50 jobseekers were hired-on-the-spot (HOTS) during the Trabaho, Negosyo, Kabuhayan (TNK) Jobs and Business Fair held on February 25, 2019 to celebrate the 33rd EDSA People Power Anniversary.

In the report released by DOLE-National Capital Region (DOLE-NCR) through its Assistant Regional Director Atty. Evelyn R. Ramos, a total of 571 registered applicants were offered 20,798 job vacancies from 55 participating establishments—40 of those were from private companies and 15 from overseas agencies.

PERSONS WITH DISABILITIES (PWDs) WELCOME: Joining the 571 registered applicants was Sunshine Supetran from Montalban, Rizal, who came early at the job fair site for an employment opportunity. Apart from her application as an office staff at Temps and Staffers, Inc., she also submitted her resume and went through interviews with other participating employers that day. Leading the TNK fair were the DOLE-Bureau of Local Employment, DOLE-National Capital Region, and the Philippine Overseas Employment Agency (POEA) in partnership with the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI), Technical Education and Skills Development Authority (TESDA), and the City Government of Mandaluyong through its Public Employment Service Office (PESO).

Said agencies assembled first at a ceremonial opening held in the morning.

Mandaluyong City Mayor Carmelita Abalos thanked all the partner agencies in her welcome message that was delivered in her behalf by City Administrator Ernesto E. Victorino.

For his part, Labor Secretary Silvestre H. Bello III said that the job fair was an important event as it commemorated the EDSA People Power Revolution—another opportunity for their partner agencies to come together and provide a TNK fair for Filipinos.

“This undertaking is pursuant to the desire of President Duterte to provide greater opportunities for higher income,” told Bello in his inspirational message delivered in his behalf by DOLE Undersecretary Renato L. Ebarle.

The labor chief also encouraged applicants especially workers who have returned from overseas employment and new graduates to take advantage of the job opportunities offered that day.

“With more jobs being our priority, we intend to fulfill our commitment for decent work and economic growth. Also through the TNKs, we hope to be able to promote the growth of micro, small, and medium enterprises and reduce unemployment,” he said.

Also present was Trade and Industry Secretary Ramon M. Lopez and said that in addition to TNKs conducted in the country, they also extend the TNK globally for overseas or migrant Filipinos who would like to invest in the Philippines.

In his keynote message, Lopez also emphasized the need of both the government agencies and the private sectors to work together in providing jobs, livelihood, and business opportunities to uplift the lives of Filipinos.

Among the many jobs offered on the EDSA Day Job Fair include nurses, physical therapists, technicians, engineers, merchandisers, brand ambassadors, human resource officers, accounting assistants, managers, carpenters, operators, mechanics, painters, electricians, plumbers, field interviewers, kitchen staff, and customer service representatives.
