“Preparing for the youth’s future is something that has to be taken seriously and in Mandaluyong, we are very much serious about it,” said Mandaluyong City PESO Manager  Emma L. Javier in the message she delivered in behalf of Councilor Charisse Abalos Vargas, Vice Chairperson, GAD Focal Point System Executive Committee.

The activity, held in line with the observance of Women’s Month, is one of the strategies being implemented by the City to promote gender equality and bridge the youth to employment opportunities in the labor market. “This is our simple way of helping the Mandaleños’ youth in increasing their employability and chances in the job market,” said Javier.

Javier continued that grooming the entrants to the world of work will enable them to be well equipped in handling the rigors of job search.

Two main topics were discussed during the orientation seminar such as Skills Enhancement and Pre-Employment Orientation and Labor Education for Graduating Students. Senior LEO Ryan Roberto E. Delos Reyes of the Employment Promotion and Workers Welfare Division discussed the former while Senior LEO Antonia Ang of the DOLE PAPAMAMARISAN field office took care of the latter.

Delos Reyes extensively discussed the pre-employment preparations a job applicant should undergo. He likewise stressed the need to have an optimistic attitude towards work as it exudes positivity on the part of the applicants.

For her part, Ang lectured on the workers’ rights and comprehensively discussed, among others, the minimum wage, overtime and holiday pays, and mandatory benefits.

The activity was participated by around 120 graduating senior high school and tertiary students of the city’s state and local universities and colleges.

Parallel sessions were also conducted by the PESO in Mandaluyong High School wherein participation reached 400 senior high school students.

The activity is held in line with the Mandaluyong’s observance of Women’s Month and in compliance with DOLE-NCR’s memorandum to cascade relevant information to the graduating students to provide holistic approach for their eventual entry to the world work. END / Ryan Roberto E. Delos Reyes
