After a successful creation of Job Placement Offices (JPOs) at the Pamantasan ng Lungsod ng Muntinlupa, Quezon City University, Pamantasan ng Lungsod ng Valenzuela, and Valenzuela City Polytechnic College, the Department of Labor and Employment – National Capital Region (DOLE-NCR) is now exploring the possibility of establishing another job placement site—this time at the Manuel Luis Quezon University (MLQU).

DOLE-NCR Senior Labor and Employment Officer Ryan Roberto E. Delos Reyes and Labor and Employment Officer II Allen Rose T. Carreon of the Employment Promotion and Workers Welfare Division met with MLQU Student Affairs Office representatives, Ms. Sofia Caccam and Ms. Ranya Balagot, on January 10, 2023 as part of DOLE-NCR’s commitment to strengthening ties with the academe industry.

To bring full awareness on the DOLE’s employment programs and services for the youth, Mr. Delos Reyes discussed the Special Program for the Employment of Students, Government Internship Program and JobStart Philippines Program, which generally aims to increase the employability of the youth through actual work immersion and development of positive work perspective. The Labor Market Information (LMI) and Career Guidance and Employment Coaching services were also presented as interventions for the youth’s eventual entry to the labor market. The LMI was highlighted as a primary pillar of employment that caters to policy development and enhancement of needed interventions to promote employment generation and sustainability.

The Labor Education for Graduating Students was also presented to give a holistic picture on the DOLE’s pre-employment interventions along with the livelihood assistance for the youth under the Youth Entrepreneurship Support that hones the entrepreneurial acumen and interests of the students.

For her part, Ms. Carreon shared the DOLE’s Child Labor Prevention and Elimination Program (CLPEP) to amplify awareness on the child labor concerns raised by the academe industry and students in general.

Other programs discussed were the Job Fair, Phil-JobNet, and PESO Employment Information System.

Partnering with the academe is one of the Department’s strategies to ensure that the employment needs of students can be easily coordinated through provision of relevant labor market information and to bring closer other DOLE programs for the youth.
