The Department of Labor and Employment – National Capital Region (DOLE-NCR) and the District V (KABAKA Foundation, Inc.) of the City of Manila collaborated on the implementation of the Government Internship Program (GIP) with a total of 94 youth individuals identified as government interns for the various offices of the said congressional district.
On October 5, 2021, the DOLE-NCR through its Manila Field Office (MFO) conducted an orientation for the program beneficiaries to discuss their duties and responsibilities as government interns. MFO Labor and Employment Officer Amicel Maguigad conducted said activity wherein she discussed, among others, the program’s objective, entitlements of being a GIP beneficiary, and even shared her insights on the program as a former GIP.
“Ang pagiging isang GIP beneficiary ay isang oportunidad para sa kabataang Pilipino upang maipakita nila ang kanilang talento at kakayahan pagdating sa serbisyo publiko,” she said.
Meanwhile, Program Manager Edu Delos Santos of the KABAKA Foundation, Inc. expressed his gratitude to the Department of Labor and Employment for granting their request to have the program implemented in their district and for providing the youth of Manila’s Fifth District an exposure to public service.
The Government Internship Program (GIP) of DOLE provides an internship opportunity for the indigent but deserving Filipino youth who want to pursue a career in public service. During the period of their internship, the GIP beneficiaries are entitled to an allowance equivalent to the prevailing minimum wage in the region, accident insurance coverage with GSIS during the year of engagement, and a Certificate of Completion.
