The DOLE-NCR Manila Field Office held an on-site visit at San Miguel Yamamura Packaging Corporation (SMYPC) on September 28, 2020 to witness SMYPC’s announcement of new service contractor, which will affect the 172 workers of their current service provider.

The said affected workers are from Primepak Employees Multi-Purpose Cooperative (PEMPCO), whose service contract with SMYPC is due to expire on October 31, 2020.

In their letter addressed to Regional Director Sarah Buena S. Mirasol, SMYPC requested representatives from the labor department to help address issues and concerns that will be raised by the affected workers. DOLE-NCR Manila Field Office Director Ma. Corazon M. Pepito deployed a Quick Response Team (QRT) as represented by Senior Labor and Employment Officer Marijane Paddayuman and Labor and Employment Officer III Cynthia J. Tolentino.

San Miguel Corporation (SMC) Multi-Services, Inc., SMYPC’s new service contractor effective November 1, 2020, will hire the 172 affected workers and announced that they will provide the same terms and conditions of benefits they had with PEMPCO.

PEMPCO, on the other hand, will provide separation pay for the said workers upon their resignation.

This initiative is part of the Department’s mandate to protect the workers’ rights and welfare, and maintain industrial peace.
