An awarding ceremony was held for the 17 local government units (LGU) in the National Capital Region (NCR) to honor their steadfast support and commitment in implementing the various employment facilitation programs and services of the Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) at the local level through their Public Employment Service Office (PESO).

The annual PESO Year-End Recognition Program of DOLE-NCR was held this year on December 18, at the Kartilya ng Katipunan Park, Ermita, Manila.

In a statement, DOLE-NCR Regional Director Sarah Buena S. Mirasol stressed that the program also aims to recognize their hard work, particularly during this difficult time, when NCR also succumbed into a COVID-induced health and economic global crisis coupled with devastating effects of the recent typhoons.

“We would like to commend the efforts of all the Metro Manila Mayors who remained on top of this difficult situation. At the early onset of the pandemic, they have enforced measures to provide health and social protection protocols to slowdown COVID transmission in their locality and implement sound policy response to mitigate financial distress affecting the local economy and preserve employment,” Director Mirasol said.

“Our PESOs gallantly face-up against the unseen enemy despite its health hazards and yet they have continuously deliver the PESO mandate to assist as many affected workers as possible, heeding to the call of the Bayanihan Spirit,” she added.

Assistant Regional Directors Marion S. Sevilla and Russel A. Jallorina with Division Chief Lorna R. Obedoza of Employment Promotion and Workers Welfare Division, joined Director Mirasol in presenting the awards for the Local Chief Executives and PESO Managers. Awardees were also accompanied by the respective DOLE-NCR Field Office Directors having jurisdiction of the concerned LGU.

The grand winners of the 2019 Best Regional PESO in NCR – 1st to 2nd Class Municipality went to Pateros City while the 2019 Best Regional PESO – Highly Urbanized City (HUC) went to Mandaluyong City. The latter was recently declared winner of the 2019 Search for Best National PESO – HUC category during the 87th DOLE Founding Anniversary Celebration on December 8, 2020.

In a statement, Mandaluyong City PESO Manager Emma L. Javier credited the recognition to her entire team and the support of their local chief executive.

“We wish to thank the Department of Labor and Employment for recognizing PESO Mandaluyong as the 2019 Best PESO in the National level for the Highly Urbanized City category. This recognition would not have been possible if not for the untiring efforts of our staff and the unwavering support of the City Government of Mandaluyong under the leadership of Mayor Menchie Abalos. PESO Mandaluyong will continue to be in the forefront of sincere and timely public service, and undoubtedly, this recognition provides us additional motivation to do our job,” she said.

In addition to the grand regional winners, DOLE-NCR also recognized the 2019 Best Regional PESO runners-up: Taguig City (3rd), Makati City (2nd), and Caloocan City (1st); and Consolation Awards: Muntinlupa City, Parañaque City, and Pasay City.  Aside from the plaques of recognition, the winners, runners-up and finalists also received cash prizes, and everyone received their annual incentives.

Likewise, the regional office also conferred the Special Awards to Quezon City PESO and Mandaluyong City PESO for ensuring continuous provision of relevant labor market information by consistently conducting environmental scanning and research on its local economy and employment situation that contributed to DOLE-NCR’s Regional Labor Market Situationer amid the COVID-19 pandemic.

In view of the COVID-19 preventive measures, the ceremony was only limited to few personnel and senior officials from DOLE-NCR and PESO.
