DOLE-NCR joined the Department of Social Welfare and Development’s (DSWD) Pantawid Pamilyang Pilipino Program (4Ps) Regional Advisory Council in its planning activity this year to institutionalize the Youth Development Session that aims to mainstream intervention for said sector to ascertain a holistic development while in the program and before their eventual exit.
DSWD-NCR Regional Director Monina Romualdez graced the occasion and thanked other line agencies for their participation and for ensuring a convergent perspective towards the program’s success.
Further, their DSWD Central Office presented the Youth Development Session (YDS) proposed programs and emphasized that it was mostly culled from DOLE’s JobStart Life Skills Training Module. The agency added that it was first piloted in Region III, which was well received by its beneficiaries as it was integrated by the Department of Education in said region in its Home Room subject. The support of said National Agency served as crucial factor in ensuring its usage by the 4Ps beneficiaries in Region III and expressed hope that the same can be replicated in NCR.
Meanwhile, a break-out session was also held after the presentation to elicit inputs from other member agencies to identify possible contributions of each agencies in the Youth Development Session. For its part, DOLE-NCR through its senior labor officer representative, Mr. Ryan Roberto E. Delos Reyes, shared the importance of awareness on child labor and the acceptance of its existence in the region as key into a comprehensive approach on youth development.
As the Regional Focal Person of the Child Labor Prevention and Elimination Program, Career Guidance and Employment Coaching, Mr. Delos Reyes correlated the interface of said programs and interventions. He further emphasized the importance of addressing the concerns of children as they will be the future workforce of the country. He also mentioned that since both Departments are duty-bearers in manpower development and poverty reduction, the YDS is an initiative that can be worked on side-by-side by DOLE and DSWD.
The engagement of DOLE-NCR in the 4Ps Regional Advisory Council is seen as an important factor in the transition of the beneficiaries into productive members of the workforce.
