The Department of Labor and Employment – National Capital Region (DOLE-NCR) joined the Department of Trade and Industry – National Capital Region’s (DTI-NCR) graduation for the beneficiaries of the “Kapatid Mentor ME” Program (ME for micro entrepreneurs) on October 21, 2022.

Said initiative has a coaching and mentoring approach where large corporations teach micro, small and medium enterprises (MSMEs) on different aspects of business operations. It also aims to enable micro and small entrepreneurs to scale up their enterprises, stimulate economic activity, and generate employment opportunities. It also intend to help OTOPreneurs (One Town, One Product) for business expansion.

Part of the activity was a presentation from DOLE-NCR wherein Mr. Ryan Roberto E. Delos Reyes, Senior Labor and Employment Officer of the Employment Promotion and Workers Welfare Division, highlighted the interventions being provided by the labor department to enhance self-employment. He presented the DOLE Integrated Livelihood Program or the Kabuhayan Assistance to discuss the program components and requirements including the amount to be provided to the livelihood beneficiaries. He also shared the annual Search for the Best DOLE Assisted Livelihood Program for better appreciation of the Department’s initiative to support start-up entrepreneurs.

Mr. Delos Reyes also mentioned the integration of the entrepreneurship career track in the DOLE’s Career Guidance and Employment Coaching program. He emphasized that a holistic view of the labor market as well as the stakeholders’ career path is needed to have an informed career choice. He added that teachers, guidance counselors, career advocates, and students benefitted from said advocacy seminar.

The program convergence between DOLE-NCR and DTI-NCR was institutionalized in 2016 through the Trabaho, Negosyo, at Kabuhayan program that provides for a cohesive approach in employment facilitation. In 2018, DOLE-NCR was tapped by DTI-NCR to provide business and employment related information during its Kapatid Mentor ME graduation wherein a former janitor of DOLE-NCR benefitted from said intervention, attended the exit activity, and was later nominated as the region’s entry to the DOLE Kabuhayan Awards for Individual Category.
