The labor department provided enormous support to Manileños through its various assistance programs and employment opportunities, said Manila Mayor Maria Sheilah Lacuna-Pangan during a courtesy visit of the Manila Field Office (MFO) of the Department of Labor and Employment – National Capital Region (DOLE-NCR) on January 13, 2023.
MFO’s newly designated OIC-Director II Atty. Joel P. Petaca, together with his team, discussed with Mayor Lacuna and Executive Assistant on Labor and Employment Fernan B. Bermejo, some strategic actions that could lead to a more effective implementation of DOLE programs and services such as the Tulong Panghanapbuhay sa Ating Disadvantaged/Displaced Workers (TUPAD) Program, Government Internship Program (GIP), DOLE Integrated Livelihood Program (DILP), Special Program for Employment of Students (SPES), and Child Labor Prevention and Elimination Program (CLPEP).
Mr. Bermejo also shared their notable initiatives which include the employment of senior citizens of Manila by some fast-food chains. He also said that this year, solo parents identified through the Manila Department of Social Welfare (MDSW) will be given importance in the implementation of employment programs—this is despite their continued assistance to the youth, senior citizens, and persons with disabilities.
OIC-Director Petaca also talked about other DOLE programs wherein the City Government of Manila, through its Public Employment Service Office (PESO), may be involved. This includes programs on labor relations such as Tripartism and Social Dialogue, Labor and Employment Education Services (LEES), as well as the Labor Inspection Program that aims to ensure effective and efficient enforcement of General Labor Standards and Occupational Safety and Health Standards (OSHS).
Mayor Lacuna and Executive Assistant Bermejo thanked DOLE-NCR, expressing their continued commitment to the implementation of the Department’s programs and services to make the government felt by Manileños. On the other hand, Atty. Petaca manifested his support and cooperation with the City Government of Manila and their PESO.
