The cooperation between the government and the private sector is crucial considering the country’s economy is still on a rebound after the health crisis brought by the COVID-19 pandemic. The information that the government will share will prove to be vital as many companies are in need of data that will enable them to plan effectively on their next steps towards recovery.
On August 31, 2022, the Shakey’s Pizza Restaurant invited the Department of Labor and Employment – National Capital Region (DOLE-NCR) on their “Strategic Planning on the Philippine Labor Market and 2023 Labor Forecast” at its headquarters at WOW Center, Service Road, Parañaque City. Mr. Ryan Roberto E. Delos Reyes, Senior Labor and Employment Officer of the Employment Promotion and Workers Welfare Division, represented DOLE-NCR during said activity.
In his presentation, Delos Reyes showed the current labor force survey results and explained the indicators of said instrument to clearly confirm the situation of the National Capital Region compared to that of the national data. He further mentioned the six key employment generators in Metro Manila and elucidated its performance during the height of the pandemic, including the food sector to which Shakey’s Pizza belongs.
Likewise, said labor officer also presented several company practices in hiring potential employees as well as the relevant skills needed by the companies. He highlighted the importance of attitude in the hiring practice of companies. He further discussed the 4th Industrial Revolution and related it to the current situation of the market including its potentials in the operations of said company.
A healthy exchange of ideas followed after the presentation. The team present during the activity discussed their current situation, market’s potentials, and next steps.
To give attendees information on the initiatives of the Department to address skills mismatch, the DOLE-NCR representative discussed developmental programs—such as the Special Program for Employment of Students and JobStart Philippines—where Shakey’s can join as a participating establishment. Afterwards, the top officials during the meeting expressed their interest and commitment to the said programs as part of their efforts to give back to the community in line with their corporate social responsibility.
The attendees appreciated the significant add-ons to their planning activity that would enable them to steer the company effectively. The activity was attended by 60 employees from Shakeys, including its top executives with some officials attending via online platform.
The provision of relevant labor market information and sharing of government’s interventions are the contributions of the Department to revitalize the economy of the region as it will enable the business sector and other key players of the industry to plan properly and effectively implement measures in relation to its economic undertakings and employment concerns.
