The Department of Labor and Employment – Regional Office VI (DOLE 6) held its annual Regional Career Advocacy and Employment Congress on 17-18 October 2022 with the theme “Strengthening Equal Employment Opportunities and Relevant Gender Responsive Career Guidance – Employment Coaching and HR Practices in the NOW Normal.”
In line with this activity, the DOLE-National Capital Region was tapped to share its practices in employment services particularly in guiding a resilient workforce towards the new normal. Mr. Ryan Roberto E. Delos Reyes, Senior Labor and Employment Officer of the Employment Promotion and Workers Welfare Division served as Resource Speaker.
In his opening remarks, DOLE 6 Regional Director, Atty. Sixto Rodriguez, welcomed the participants and highlighted the importance of the activity as it will capacitate the program implementers in effectively delivering career services to clients.
Former DOLE RO 6 Regional Director Ponciano Ligutom, keynote speaker of the activity, highlighted the journey of the Guidance Counselors Network (GCNet) which he conceptualized while he was still the Director of the Bureau of Local Employment. He mentioned the importance of a well-rounded employment personnel to cope with the changes of the labor market.
Another former DOLE RO 6 Regional Director, Atty. Johnson Cañete served as Resource Speaker for Stress Management. He shared information on handling the stressful situation that accompanies the daily life and work of the service providers.
In his lecture on DOLE-NCR’s JobsFit, Mr. Delos Reyes presented the region’s labor market situation after the health crisis. He discussed the identified jobs that will be needed by the region’s Key Employment Generators as well as the skills preferred by the industries. Also presented were the region’s viable sectors namely: manufacturing, education, and entertainment; and local economic drivers with potentials on employment growth and sustainability.
For his second session, Mr. Delos Reyes also presented self-employment or entrepreneurship—another career track. He discussed the digital commerce and emphasized its relation as another employment generator during the height of the health crisis and new normal. He also mentioned the sector’s projected growth to give the participants the scope of its potentials both as a career path and economic undertaking. He also provided information on successful entrepreneurs and their beginnings to inspire the participants in honing their business acumen and share the information on business start-up to their stakeholders.
This has been the fourth year that DOLE-NCR was tapped to share its regional situationer and other relevant practices such as its anti-child labor initiatives. The sharing of best practice on Labor Market Information and Career Guidance and Employment Coaching has been performed by DOLE-NCR since 2017 with its first engagement with DOLE RO MIMAROPA followed by DOLE Regional Offices in Ilocos, Cagayan Valley, Bicol, Western Visayas, and Eastern Visayas in the succeeding years.
