The Department of Labor and Employment – National Capital Region (DOLE-NCR), through its Manila Field Office (MFO), conducted an orientation on the Special Program for Employment of Students (SPES) to some 50 beneficiaries on October 7, 2022, at the Manila PESO Extension Office.

The activity was made possible in coordination with the City Government of Manila through its Public Employment Service Office (PESO).

Under the program, beneficiaries are paid for the services rendered for temporary employment, in partnership with the participating establishments, whether private or public. Their salaries or wages, based on the minimum wage in the area or applicable hiring rate, are subsidized and paid by the government through DOLE.

So far this year, the implementation of SPES in Manila has helped some 1000 students and out-of-school youth pursue their education.

MFO Labor and Employment Officer, Ms. Aries A. Librando congratulated the beneficiaries on behalf of MFO Director, Ms. Corazon Pepito. During the orientation, she discussed the SPES background, benefits, implementation process, payment process, and its other salient features. She also stressed that as they gain experiences, the program will also help hone their skills while positively molding their attitude towards work. She was accompanied by MFO SPES Program Coordinator, Ms. Sheena Leslie Sarigue and Manila PESO staff, Ms. Thea Marie G. Filamor to provide technical assistance.
