A group of identified parents of child laborers in various barangays in the City of Manila received government aid through the labor department to help augment their household income and help free their children from being exposed to various forms of child labor that hinders their access to education.
The Department of Labor and Employment – National Capital Region (DOLE-NCR) through its Manila Field Office (MFO) awarded a Bigasan (Rice Retailing) Livelihood Package to 25 beneficiaries on October 9, 2021, amounting to a total of P250,000.00. Said beneficiaries were identified as one of the DOLE Integrated Livelihood Program (DILP) recipients out of the 181 profiled and interviewed parents of child laborers in May 2021.
Prior to receiving the government aid, the beneficiaries participated in DOLE-NCR’s social preparation seminar to equip the recipients with knowledge and skills in managing and sustaining their livelihood undertaking.
The DOLE livelihood assistance to parents of child laborers is a strategic response to prevent and eliminate child labor. Parents of child laborers are among the priority beneficiaries under the DOLE Integrated Livelihood and Emergency Employment Program (DILEEP). Under the Guidelines of the DILEEP, beneficiaries should not allow their children to be engaged in child labor.
