The DOLE – National Capital Region (NCR) was invited by the Public Employment Service Office (PESO) of the City Government of Pasig on their first industry forum on June 24, 2022 at the Marco Polo Hotel, Pasig City, which aims to strengthen the coordination between the local government and the economic drivers of the city in the transition following the health crisis due to COVID-19.
Likewise, the activity aims to provide participants an in-depth appreciation on the purpose and relevance of employment facilitation programs including Labor Market Information relative to the demands of the region’s key employment generators (KEGs).
As the invited resource speaker for the activity, DOLE-NCR Senior Labor and Employment Officer Ryan Roberto E. Delos Reyes of the Employment Promotion and Workers Welfare Division presented the initial regional report of JobsFit—DOLE’s labor market study. He also provided information on the skills and employment needs of the identified six KEGs of NCR.
The DOLE-NCR representative also gave an in-depth discussion about the identified occupations as well as the needed skills under the KEGs to present a clear picture of the region’s labor market. He also shared the region’s employment performances during the pre and post pandemic and highlighted the importance of knowing the proper information on the labor market to address the persistence of job-and-skills mismatch.
Delos Reyes also stressed the importance of the applicants’ attitude and work perspective that should be seen during job interviews. He related the hiring processes and the high turn-over rates being experienced by the companies that affects its productivity and resources.
In response to the concerns of youth employability, Delos Reyes presented the various interventions for said sector such as the Special Program for Employment of Students, Government Internship Program, and JobStart Philippines Program. He said that aside from its financial benefits, the programs aim to provide actual work immersion to develop proper work attitude and increase appreciation in the world of work.
Other topics include labor relations and workers productivity as discussed by fellow labor officers Antonia Ang and Aljess Gil Agoncillo of the DOLE-NCR PAPAMAMARISAN Field Office. During the Open Forum, the DOLE-NCR resource speakers responded to queries concerning salary, company practices, and workers’ career path; among others.
PESO Pasig is one of the major partners of the Department in employment services that aims to strengthen its provision of programs to become a multi-faceted employment service office in the region.
